Looking for laundry room ideas to turn a traditionally utilitarian room into an elevated space where you actually enjoy folding towels? This post is for you! The laundry room, often an overlooked corner, deserves its moment in the spotlight. A touch of creativity and thoughtful design can breathe new life into your laundry routine, making it a task you not only accomplish but genuinely enjoy. I’ll show you how I reimagined my laundry room, turning it into a space that seamlessly blends practicality with aesthetics.

MAKE A PLAN & SHOP FOR ITEMS

For laundry room ideas, the first place to start is looking at your space and deciding what you need. It’s time to form a game plan.

Laundry rooms come in various sizes and configurations. You may or may not have cabinets, hanging space, a sink, laundry hampers, and a countertop for folding.

Take a look at your laundry room and think about what is working and what isn’t. Does it work functionally? If not, what could make it better? Do you just need a facelift with a few new items?

Make a list of changes you’d like to make and new items you’d like to purchase. You may want to paint the room a new color, or you may simply need to clean it up and add some stylish accessories and storage pieces like me.

The first step is to make a plan and shop for your new items.

START WITH A CLEAN ROOM

Once you’ve decided on a new plan for your laundry room, you’ll need to remove everything from the space and give it a good clean.

It’s incredibly refreshing to start with a clean, blank slate. It’s so important to clean your floors, baseboards, vents, washer, dryer, countertop, cabinet fronts, and tops of cabinets if that applies to you.

Get out your cleaning kit and get to work! If you don’t have a cleaning kit yet, check out this post here. Cleaning kits are one of my favorite cleaning hacks!

I love having my go-to cleaning items on hand in all the rooms where I often need them. I place these kits in bathrooms and in the laundry room in my house. It saves time and simplifies the cleaning process.

ADD AN AREA RUG

One of my top laundry room ideas is adding an area rug to the space. Most laundry rooms have a tile, concrete, or LVT floor to be resistant to any water. These floor types can tend to be cold and hard.

It helps to have an area rug under your feet as you change your loads of laundry or stand to fold your items. Additionally, it’s an easy way to add some color and texture to the room. An area rug can really warm up a small space.

I was so happy I found this rug option at Target. It’s part of the Threshold collection designed by Studio McGee. It’s the Checkered Stripe Brown Rug in 3’x5′ size. I love the classic, timeless style of this rug. It’s very comfortable to stand on. It’s also heavy enough that it doesn’t move around when walking on it.

For an area rug under $50, this is an AMAZING option! I’m considering getting more for my home.

ADD NATURAL WOVEN BASKETS

Another one of my top laundry room ideas is adding natural woven baskets. The visual appeal of baskets instantly elevates the style of a room. The texture, natural materials, and functionality are all a win-win in my mind.

I happened to have the perfect amount of space to fit these Medium Natural Woven Baskets from Target. They are part of the Hearth & Hand collection with Magnolia. I love the change in texture and opacity in the middle of the baskets. This allows me to see inside when I need to, but doesn’t show a full view of what’s inside

I’m using these baskets to store extra toilet paper rolls. Doesn’t this look much better than placing the plastic packages of Cottonelle on the counter? Yes! Using natural woven baskets can elevate anything instantly!

USE GLASS JARS WITH LIDS

Here’s another really good laundry room idea. Use glass jars with lids to store your frequently used items like Tide Pods or Wool Dryer Balls. I found these glass jars in the kitchen section at Target, but ultimately bought them online and did Target Drive Up. Because, why not?

I like the look of using two jars with one larger and one smaller in size. For reference, I used the 128oz jar and the 64oz jar.

Using clear storage containers is always a great idea. Clear glass allows you to see the contents inside, making it easy to identify the Tide Pods and wool dryer balls without having to open the jars. This can be particularly convenient when you’re running low on supplies and need to restock.

Also, clear glass jars are visually appealing and can add a touch of elegance to your laundry room. They contribute to a clean and organized look, enhancing the overall aesthetic of the space.

FINISH OFF WITH AN OIL DIFFUSER

Now that you’ve incorporated all of these laundry room ideas, you need to finish it off with one final touch! Your beautiful clean clothes deserve a beautiful clean room. Adding an oil diffuser will be the icing on the cake.

Walking into a room that looks, feels, and smells clean is an amazing experience. You may not think of placing an oil diffuser in your laundry room, but it’s a game changer for your mood when you’re in that room.

Scents affect our mood more than you realize. This utilitarian-type room is the perfect spot for some mood uplifting if you ask me!

I found this amazing oil diffuser at Target and read so many amazing reviews online. They were right. I think this might be my new favorite scent. It’s the Clarity Oil Diffuser by Casaluna. I also love that you can buy a refill for it!

I hope these laundry room ideas have ignited your creativity and sparked a desire to reimagine your own space. Remember, the laundry room is more than just a functional space; it’s an opportunity to infuse your home with style and efficiency.

Now you can embrace the joy of a clean, well-organized space, where the mundane tasks of matching socks becomes a lot more enjoyable. Happy laundering, and may your laundry room always be a space you love coming home to.
